Totem

source: by Duncan Rawlinson

Dream #7: I looked out my apartment window and saw a bald eagle. How extraordinary to see something so wild in this urban neighborhood. It must be far from home. Perhaps it has been displaced. A mix of slight fear and reassurance overcomes me as I gaze upon its sharp beak and talons.

Themes: freedom, strength, survival

Recurring Theme

source: by {amymichelle}

Dream #6: Red roses in my hair. I reach to remove them. The leaves and stems are tangled and much of my hair comes out with them.

See: hair. Related: Teeth falling out. On a personal note I suffer thyroid imbalance and the dream may be induced by day residue. It's hard to feel attractive when you don't feel well.

A Dream is a Theatre

"The whole dream-work is essentially subjective, and a dream is a theatre in which the dreamer is himself the scene, the player, the prompter, the producer, the author, the public, and the critic."
- Carl Jung

Wildflowers

Dream #5: Nightfall. My sister and I are sitting in a field of wildflowers. Our hearts are light. We are laughing and running our hands gently through the petals.

Ageless symbols here. Many possible meanings. My take is that we venture to love even from our shadow sides.

"One does not become enlightened by imagining figures of light, but by making the darkness conscious." -Carl Jung

Song of a Dream

source: by janlewin

Lone in the light of that magical grove,
I felt the stars of the spirits of Love
Gather and gleam round my delicate youth,
And I heard the song of the spirits of Truth;
To quench my longing I bent me low
By the streams of the spirits of Peace that flow
In that magical wood in the land of sleep.

-Sarojini Naidu

Silver Sea

Dream #4: Vast, sunny boardwalk. I'm with my 2-year-old niece. We're at the top of a huge set of stairs looking out across the water.

source: by gypsybrassband (Quincy Boardman)

The waves are shimmering. The sea and clouds are endless. It is warm and calm and yet I ask, "Is it scary?"

source: by Paula G. Furió

Lately my niece has been exploring the concept of "scary". In the dream she is unafraid of the expanse, whereas I slightly tremble. I simultaneously wish to share and protect her from the wonders of this life.

Last week a relative of mine passed away in a tragic accident. (May his spirit be at peace.) I have been reflecting on death and afterlife.

Sky Phenomenon

Dream #3: Night. There are families everywhere camping out. Blankets, lawn chairs. What are they looking at? There are strange lights in the sky. A rare astronomical event.

As I look more closely, the lights become brighter and more intense. As if looking through a telescope I see that the stars are actually composed of people!

Magic Goose

Dream #2: Vintage shop. I think it's owned by an old friend. I find a cute shoe, but there's no sign of its mate. Mysterious toychest. I find a little goose inside.

source: by AndersenStudio

It is a wind-up goose. An old tune begins to play. I can somehow see the rotation of the tiny cylinder inside.

It amazes me that the mind can compose and "hear" an original melody during sleep. Why can't I do this in my waking life?

The Color of My Mind

"I've dreamt in my life dreams that have stayed with me ever after, and changed my ideas: they've gone through and through me, like wine through water, and altered the color of my mind."
-Emily Brontë
